Good Grief

Today, we're taking a look at the Five of Vessels, which is an adaptation of the traditional Five of Cups. We’re going to focus on feelings of loss and grief, which we can experience in a variety of situations. Grief is a strange creature that comprises many complex emotions.

The message in the Five of Vessels is that it is valid and reasonable to mourn the loss you’re facing. Perhaps you’ve experienced the end of a relationship. Maybe you’ve moved and you’re feeling homesick. Or perhaps you’ve suffered the loss of a loved one. Whatever the cause of your grief, allow yourself to feel those complex emotions.

But do not allow yourself to become lost in them. The grieving process is necessary to move on after a loss, but it can be easy to get stuck and wallow in our grief. The Five of Vessels is a warning to be mindful of allowing our grief to hold us back from fulling healing and moving on.

Moving on, moving forward does not invalidate our grief. Grief is deep and persistent. It lingers. But we can carry it with us as we move forward. We can also seek help from those around us to bear the load of our grief. There is no shame in that.

The message here in the Five of Vessels is that we are allowed to grieve. But we must not let our grief blind us to new life and opportunities. We may have to carry that grief with us as we move forward. And it will be difficult at first, the load heavy and the path uncertain. And that’s alright. Take your time. Find your footing. And keep moving forward.
